Mobile Clips for FC Zenit

November-December 2009

Together with the usual mobile content such as FC hymns and ringtones, images, quizzes and videos, supporters of Football Club Zenit in St. Petersburg, Russia are now able to download and enjoy Virtual Replays of all Zenit goals scored in the 2009 season on their mobile phones. Virtual Replays for Girondins

SportFlashback continues production of Virtual Replays for the French Ligue 1. Started earlier in the year with Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1, the project extends in its popularity. The new client - Girondins de Bordeaux, publish on their web site Virtual Replays of all goals and the best moments in Girondins matches in Ligue 1, Champions League, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue.

NFL Videos for Washington Post

August 2009

Regarding the previous year's experience in production of analytical 3D animated videos of NFL matches for The New York Times as very successful and praising the work done by SportFlashback, another US media leader The Washington Post orders a series of clips specifying tactical plays of all Washington Redskins matches in the NFL season 2009-2010. Each clip demonstrates the distinctive features characteristic of Redskins starting from the Exhibition season, through the Regular season and to the Playoff tournament.

The clips illustrate the play from different angles with three virtual cameras:

Ice Hockey World Cup 2009

April 2009

SportFlashback produces Virtual Replays from the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship matches. SFB client Blick.ch ordered virtual replays of the goals and the best moments of all Swiss team matches in the Preliminary and Qualification rounds and the best matches of the final stages of the championship. The agreement for the production, installation of the application and publication of the virtual replays on the web site took only one week.
Ice hockey is a fairly new sport for Virtual Replays by SportFlashback. Coverage of the hockey best moments in 3D was introduced to the site visitors on the eve of the launch of the tournament and the first replays appeared in the site in the morning following the match day.

Virtual Replays for Television

VR TV is a perfect tool designed for TV journalists to broadcast Virtual Replays of various sport events on television.
VR TV concept provides a wide range of opportunities such as a possibility to broadcast Virtual Replays, add extra visual elements directly to the pitch during the broadcasting, reproduce Virtual Replays at different speeds, review the scenes from different angles and distance.
The updated version of VR TV application is realised on a 3D engine GESA (Graphics Environment for Scripted Applications) that provides a much wider range of visually rich facilities.
The customised interface for the journalist to comment on the Virtual Replay in the studio and actually operate the application in the live broadcasting has more facilities and is more user-friendly.

Baseball

February 2009

SportFlashback is broadening its horizons and is taking up new sports where the technologies of graphic presentations can be applied. Now that a number of sports like soccer, rugby, cricket, American football etc make up a great experience of the company, SportFlashback has come to tackle baseball.

Like any other sport it has its own characteristic features that make it unique as a sporting activity and from the technical and presentation points of view. It includes a great variety of possible player movements, a lot of unpredictable successions of events, a few actions taking place at different parts of the field at the same time etc. It all makes the task of 3D visualisation quite challenging and interesting.

SportFlashback team has produced a demo version of 3D scenes reconstructing most common baseball plays. The scenes can be viewed from various cameras – home plate, pitcher’s mound, bases, top view that cover all of the baseball diamond. The user can control the cameras to change angles and view the scenes with players’ eyes.

To present and promote the new initiative SFB produced a demo 3D video.

Videos for TV5 Monde

February 2009

The famous global television network TV5 Monde, broadcasting several channels of French language programming, has become our customer. TV5 Monde ordered videos of some spectacular goals scored in matches of League 1, France.
SportFlashback produces 3D graphics video clips reconstructing the goal scene, showing the whole situation from various cameras including player’s point of view, and with additional graphics for the TV commentator to explain the goal scenario.

The clips were broadcast on TV5 Monde football dedicated programme “foot!” and received a praising response. TV5 Monde has the rights to broadcast videos of League 1 matches, however, the channel requested 3D computer graphics as these clips have a definite advantage over ordinary videos. A short and high quality film demonstrates the incident from all favourable positions and at different speeds. Highlight and names of the key players, ball and player tracks as well as arrows demonstrating the direction of a kick, pass or shot help the viewer to predict the line of the situation development and the analyst in the TV studio to comment on the episode.

NFL Videos for New York Times

SportFlashback has produced 16 video clips of animated plays of the 2008 season NFL matches ordered by the US leading newspaper The New York Times. Each clip demonstrates some distinctive features so characteristic of each of the 16 teams coming out to the National Football League playoffs.

The clips illustrate the play from different angles with three virtual cameras:

• Aerial view flying camera showing the course of play from above

• Key players’ point of view

The clips are used by The New York Times as a tool for explaining teams’ actions, tactical stratagems and feints with the use of extra graphics.

Therefore, these videos were created in accordance with the specifications of what exactly needs to be shown and the SFB team then could apply their creative talents not only to reconstruct the event but also to make it most realistic and attractive.

New 3D Drill Viewer for GRC

SportFlashback has developed a new 3D Drill Viewer for and to the design provided by the partner GrassrootsCoaching. Now the most popular with the GrassrootsCoaching members hundreds of 3D animated drills visually explaining various tactical and technical skills can be viewed with the new, customised and improved viewer. The new application now presents drills on a new training ground and has a facility for inserting different pitches, grounds or stadiums.

It also has a lot of advertising areas which gives it a better commercial opportunity, and other valuable advantages. GrassrootsCoaching constantly increases the output of visualised coaching resources and has produced a new group of skill drills that focus on developing and improving various player skills. These visualisations require a higher quality and precision of player movements and SFB helped to enrich the GRC library of drills with new, more advanced animations.

One of the production lines of SportFlashback apart from 3D animations and visualisations of sports events is production of custom-made high-resolution images rendered out of a 3D scene that provide various advantages. These images are completed by special visual elements and graphics and are used as a great addition to standard graphics, pictures and photos.

During the EURO Cup 2008 SportFlashback produced and provided images of Virtual Replays of the best moments for football-dedicated web magazine EuroSoccer. 3D Tactics Quiz for UMBRO

The French branch of the world-wide famous sports wear producer UMBRO organised the first virtual football training centre on their web-site. To get points and receive awards trainees take various courses and do some quizzes. In the Tactics Centre of the UMBRO Campus one has to answer the questions in the football tactics quiz presented as an interactive application with football match situations visualised in 3D. The 3D animations and the whole application were produced and the technical support was provided to UMBRO Campus by SportFlashback.

Drill Viewer for UEFA

GrassrootsCoaching, the company SportFlashback has been working in partnership with for many years now, has agreed with UEFA to publish some of the coaching animated material on their web site in the Training Ground section. Virtual Replays on Eurosport

January 2008

On the 20th of January 2008 Africa commenced their biggest football championship African Cup of Nations. The cup is fully covered by the leader of sports media Eurosport on their site and TV Channels. SportFlashback has now added a new customer since we produce Virtual Replays of the best goal of each ACN playing day elected by Eurosport.

It took Eurosport and SportFlashback only one week to discuss all details, come to an agreement and establish this co-operation. Now our products are published on seven Eurosport customer sites in their own languages. All daily Virtual Replays can be found in the African Cup section on eurosport.com.

Extra Argument.

January 2008

Visualisation created by SportFlashback has recently come in handy in resolving a disputable situation that led to making a crucial decision. In Eredivisie (Holland) match Ajax (6) vs AZ (1) after a corner kick an AZ player stopped the ball with his hand inside the goal. The referee’s decision was immediate to award the goal to Ajax and dismiss the player with the red card. This incident was later discussed by the AZ club authorities who were absolutely sure that the ball had crossed the goal line and the handball infringement was not applicable in these circumstances. They addressed to SportFlashback requesting to produce an animated video showing the incident from different angles and viewpoints including those of referee and linesmen. Our production team reconstructed the event in 3D using the TV clip provided. Our product, normally used for entertaining purposes, this time assisted in making a serious decision and we are happy to announce that it helped the club to persuade the officials to withdraw the booking. Web Casting in Portugal

December 2007

One of the SportFlashback products – Web Casting of football matches has been published on Portuguese site SIC covering the match Valencia vs Barcelona. It was widely advertised throughout Portugal and Spain and thousands of site visitors had the opportunity to view the animated events in the live mode and review it in the post-match mode days after. The viewers were offered to vote for or against the implement. The result was more than just positive as a few hours after the match the gap between the opinions was huge with supporters leaving the opposition of the innovation far behind. This gives us assurance to have this application used for casting all Portuguese Premier League matches on the regular basis. This demonstrates that technologies developed by SportFlashback find more and more fields for their realisation.
